Late, comment is late. So, I just one-shotted the Fate and UBW routes in about two days. I have to say, I far preferred UBW. Whilst there was nothing wrong per se with the former, the latter was just brilliant. Great characterisation, the right amount of drama and an overall exhilarating experience.

Although at times the introspection started to wear me out a little, UBW is still an evocative, touching experience I'd never thought I'd get from playing an eroge novel.

i don't think Shirou's Heaven's Feel will become Archer because he has abandoned his ideals already but perhaps... Shirou's fate and UBW will become Archer...

I love this route as well, and think it gives Shirou the best ending out of the game. Of course, I'm kinda biased towards Rin. (Saber is too emotionless like a robot, and Sakura is such a push over and seriously "damaged".) I love how they kind of remain coy about their relationship throughout the entire story arc and never really change their characters too much... Rin is still basically the same fun-loving, defensive Rin we see at the end, and Shirou, while he's experienced growth, still sticks to his principles. In Fate's arc, Saber changes too much, IMHO (but I guess is necessary since it was magic that basically killed off her emotions) and well, ultimately, the ending is so bittersweet but unavoidable and foretold from the beginning...

I still haven't finished the final story yet, but from what Archer implied about losing an arm, I think most people can assume that the Heaven's Feel Shirou turns into Archer, which makes the whole thing pretty interesting.

@Owen S: definitely. There was even a sense of their compatability in the prologue chapter - they're both pragmatic, self-confident and have a knack of arguing a point well. Even when they did argue there was some brilliant verbal sparring going on that highlighted how their minds work along similar lines. Of course, there are parallels between Shirou and Saber too in terms of self-sacrifice, how much they value their honour, and so on.

I have to say though that Lancer was great in this route - the fight between him and Archer outside the church was epic!

Do you think that Rin and Archer (ergo, Rin and Shirou) are more alike than is evident on-screen? This only make sense after cross-referencing UBW and HF, of course, since Rin wants to kill Sakura for the greater good in the latter -- when you factor in the 'Masters receive Servants that are like them' clause, it seems rather likely, no?
