Ugh... actually the end of Planetes was not so brilliant, but oh God, I cannot believe it did not actually make the list. I can understand it if you didn't like it so much or anything, but it's a classic. It's an anime that people who don't usually watch anime would watch; it's a show that everybody I know personally has among their favorites, except that it has some kitsch moments. So yeah, Planetes not on the list? That's scary.

@Chii: excellent. I mentioned Hataraki Man partly because it's so underrated and not enough people have seen it. JUST AS PLANNED. ^_~

@Peter S: it wasn't until I actually started compiling my selection that I realised how long a decade is in terms of anime shows. A lot of water has passed under the bridge, and I've had chance to sample only a fraction of it. I hope my top 25 matches expectations now...

@Sasa: if I'd had chance to see Planetes through to the end I'm sure it would've found its way onto this list (judging by what I've seen so far, anyway). Rest assured I'm determined to finish it!

@ubiquital: no peeping! But yeah, the fact that the shows here are in the lower half is more to do with how much good stuff there has been, rather than their individual quality. It was a tough call on a lot of these! ^_^'

@kadian2364: chances are my choices will be a little obvious to people who know my tastes well. It's a fun exercise though, and I'm enjoying reading other people's efforts. We all like to compile and read a good list!

@Sorrow-kun: the specific order was a pain, I'll admit. In retrospect I ought to have made it alphabetical to save myself the extra agonising but eh, it was late at night and I hadn't posted anything in ages!

@gaguri: it's always great to see how a personal idea takes off like this...these things are more fun that way somehow. But yeah, a personal list that puts personal feelings ahead of objective quality is more meaningful to me. I'm trying to justify some potentially contentious choices coming later there, too...

When I first made the list, I really wanted to say something like 'so come on guys, let's all make top 50 post!' but didn't think I had the influence like Owen to do something like that (remembering his previous 'lets all watch darker than black!' campaign. I guess we all wanted to make a list like this to remember our decade of viewing, and I think 50 is a nice number (well, for the amount of good titles I've watched anyway). I think it's more meaningful that the list represents what we like more than what 'objectively good' anime we want to recomend (which is why you'd see My-Hime and Code Geass instead of Noein/Seirei no Moribito/Kaiji on my list). I personally can't bring myself to put movies and tv series next to each other in a list like this, but good to see well deserved movies mentioned anyway.

Oh, and another thing I wondered while making my list (and you might have too) is, how the list would have looked different if I simply watched more and better anime of this decade. More than likely, my list would be different if I had watched Eureka 7, or if series like Bakemonogatari/Aoi Bungaku/Trapeze actually finished airing. I guess the important thing is to accept that the list will not be perfect, just jot down what you can. A list like this will be great when we look back on it years later maybe, haha.

I'm being a trendwhore, so my own list is coming soon. We have a lot of similar anime, but the order is vastly different. Your #26 is my #11 and your #44 is my #22. By complete coincidence, our two #28s are identical. Looking forward to the top 25.

I wanted to guess your top 10 but I cheated and took a peek at your MAL. I'd likely be just as predictable.

I want to see everyone put up their decade list and then we can do some meta-rankings.

My, My! I thought Paranoia Agent, Kino no Tabi and Last Exile would be higher up. But, hey, it's been 10 years. There's got to be a great deal of excellent series I don't remember right away. I predict Mushishi, or GITS:SAC Will be somewhere in the top 10 *fingers crossed*

Oh, I am looking forward to what you think about my list. Curiously, your list seems like it's way too full of great series, and that makes me wonder what makes the first 25. Then again, you are doing series and movies at the same time, so I am expecting Paprika, Planetes and Mushishi in the next post. ;) So yeah, I can't wait!

@chii: Perhaps you are frequenting the wrong blogs. Hataraki Man is actually quite often talked about on certain websites, I think. It was also hugely popular when it aired on TV.
